The project comes within the international competition for the expansion of the “Culinary School” of Riolo Terme. The concept involves creating a building with an extremely evocative shape. The pot shape in fact refers to the main activity of the school, gastronomy.

The pot is not only a reference to the kitchen utensil, but is also a container. In this container there are classrooms, laboratories and multifunctional spaces that stimulate learning.

The circular shape allows to create a multifunctional and permeable didactic space. The layout of the classrooms is radial, with a space dedicated to recreation and socialization in the center. The spaces on the ground floor remain free and flexible.

The laboratory are located on the second floor, this choice allows also to treat this level as a large environment characterized by natural light and a panoramic view of the hills of Riolo.

The connection with the existing building is on the first floor, in this way the circulation in the external spaces at groundfloor remains fluid.

The openings arranged in a dynamic way guarantee a supply of light suitable for educational activities. In addition the glass domes on the roof   illuminates the rooms in a diffused way avoiding glare phenomena. An outer skin consists of a metal expanded mesh, encompasses the entire body.

In conclusion the “Culinary School” of Riolo Terme is an innovative school, an environment in which active learning based on practical activities is encouraged.
