NEW FAIR COMPLEX BELGRADE
von Gerkan, Marg & Partner, Hamburg (D)
The project for the new Belgrade Fair is located inside the old fair area, and it takes from it the characters and the salient typological elements to give the complex a unitary and coherent identity.
The old square pavilions, surmounted by vaulted ceiling become the basic cells of the composition. Since the realization of the exhibition is planned in two phases, during the first phase the cells are put together based on a series of 6 pavilions on the Sava side, while only during the second phase the pavilions of completion will be realized in the urban side, where two landmark will signal the main entrance.
The pavilions are displayed on a large elevated podium. Above this podium you have the maneuver space for trucks, while below them are at the parking lots for visitors. Between the two series of pavilions there is a long central avenue, developed several levels, leading to Pavillion 1, an enormous circular hall surmounted by a dome, the real focus of the exhibition complex.
In the green area between the Sava and the exhibition, some estates are planned for hotels, commercial and offices.
