NEW BUILDING FOR PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL IN GROß-UMSTADT

The design envisages a meandering two-to three-storey building that complements the main location of the district clinics in Groß-Umstadt.
From the existing buildings, the planned new buildings for the district clinic and the psychiatry department, there is a ‘piazza’ flanked on three sides by the psychiatry department along the connecting road between the hospital and Zimmerstraße.
The outdoor facilities are supplemented on the west side by the terraces of the patient garden and a ‘garden of the senses’.
A building that is free in its lines of buildings, in which the ceilings and walls fold into a volume following the topography, forms a clear edge of the room to the “free field” of the so-called hospital hill. The design theme of the new building is the floor-to-ceiling glazing and a differentiated facade with external sun protection that give the building a bright and friendly atmosphere.

Il progetto prevede la costruzione di una struttura sinuosa collocata sulla zona nord-ovest del sito di intervento, in una porzione del lotto in pendenza integrata con la zona in cui
sono ubicate le principali cliniche distrettuali di Groß-Umstadt. Tra i fabbricati esistenti, i nuovi edifici della clinica distrettuale e il dipartimento di psichiatria, è collocata una piazza circondata
su tre lati dal dipartimento di psichiatria che si sviluppa sulla strada di collegamento tra l’ospedale e Zimmerstraße. Le aree esterne sono corredate sul lato ovest dalle terrazze aperte ai pazienti e da un “giardino dei sensi”.
L’edificio ha una forma libera, che non segue alcun allineamento con gli altri edifici, i soffitti e le pareti si piegano in un volume che segue la topografia e forma un confine netto tra le stanze
e il “campo libero”, come viene definita la collina dell’ospedale.
