ATTIC RENOVATION IN THE HISTORIC CENTER OF RIMINI

The project regards an attic renovation in the historic city center of Rimini. The aim of the project was an old attic into a loft apartment. The structure degradation required the demolition of the existing roof and the reconstruction with new material and technologies in order to achieve a seismic improvement. To reduce the loads and guarantee the best seismic response whe have chosen a wooden structure. Therefore the old and run-down tiled roof was replaced by a new structural wooden shell. Moreover, the existing roof did not provide any type of thermal insulation creating risk of water infiltration. In agreement with the client we have designed a new roof whose stratigraphy would allow to meet the highest standards of environmental comfort.
Natural lighting illuminates the interior spaces through a large skylight on the roof pich. A glazed façade in the east side provide access to the terrace and creates a spatial continuity between inside and outside. Inside, the wood on the floor and ceiling creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The metallic elements of the facades, the balaustrade and the fireplace create an elegant contrast.
Three steps lead to the outdoor terrace. This space, thank to its peculiar position, enjoys an unusual privacy considering its location in the city center. Moreover the wooden flooring and the plants help make it an intimate and familiar space. The attic renovation allows this loft in the historic city center of Rimini to obtain an accurate solar exposure throughout the year. As a result of the choice of material and finishes creates a modern space with great attention to the environment.

Il progetto riguarda la ristrutturazione di una mansarda nel centro storico di Rimini. L’obiettivo del progetto era quello di trasformare un vecchio sottotetto in un appartamento loft. Il degrado della struttura ha richiesto la demolizione della copertura esistente e la ricostruzione con nuovi materiali e tecnologie al fine di ottenere un miglioramento sismico. Per ridurre i carichi e garantire la migliore risposta sismica si è scelta una struttura in legno. Pertanto il vecchio e fatiscente tetto in tegole è stato sostituito da un nuovo involucro strutturale in legno. Inoltre, il tetto esistente non forniva alcun tipo di isolamento termico, creando il rischio di infiltrazioni d’acqua. In accordo con il cliente abbiamo progettato un nuovo tetto la cui stratigrafia avrebbe permesso di soddisfare i più alti standard di comfort ambientale.
L’illuminazione naturale illumina gli spazi interni attraverso un grande lucernario sul tetto. Una facciata vetrata sul lato est dà accesso alla terrazza e crea una continuità spaziale tra interno ed esterno. All’interno, il legno del pavimento e del soffitto crea un’atmosfera calda e accogliente. Gli elementi metallici delle facciate, la balaustra e il camino creano un elegante contrasto.
Tre gradini conducono alla terrazza esterna. Questo spazio, grazie alla sua particolare posizione, gode di un’insolita privacy considerando la sua collocazione nel centro della città. Inoltre, il pavimento in legno e le piante contribuiscono a renderlo uno spazio intimo e familiare. La ristrutturazione del sottotetto permette a questo loft nel centro storico di Rimini di ottenere un’accurata esposizione solare durante tutto l’anno. Il risultato della scelta dei materiali e delle finiture crea uno spazio moderno con grande attenzione all’ambiente.
