2011 - New Multifunctional Center, Sappada (I)

Laying on a mountain slope, leaning toward the Piave valley and the attractive Dolomiti skyline, the project purpose consists in trying to link the urban dimension (where the site is set) and the landscape itself.
The functional project plans to harmonized in one organic complex several facilities, different in function but similar in the common purpose of serving the public and the citizens: a public parking with spaces for emergency services, a day centre for elderly, a kindergarten, some guest room and civic spaces for the municipality.
Because of the public vocation of all the facilities, the project has been focused on the creation of a system of overlapping piazzas, connected one each other by cuts on the floor, which allow the light to enter the building until the lower level.
These piazzas, designed with fluent lines to remark the integration with the contour of the site, are to be in contrast to the sharp block which contains the kindergarten and the municipality spaces.
The block is inspired by the traditional characters of the local architecture, and reinvents the shape, the aspect and the typical material of the mountain culture.
